Tulare County Community Advisory Committee
for Special Education

About the Committee
This committee is required by law
There are 16 members
- Eight (8) are appointed by school districts
- Eight (8) are members-at-large nominated by school districts
and appointed by the County Board of Education
Most members are parents of students with special needs
Other members are-
- parents of general education students
- general and special education teachers
- a school administrator
- representatives from community agencies
- a student or adult with special needs

Our Job

Support and promote a free, appropriate public education for
students with special needs
Increase awareness of the needs and abilities of special
education students
Advise the SELPA Administrator and the Directors of Special
Education Committee on special education issues
Recognize and honor people, agencies and businesses that
support the principles of special education
Become familiar with current trends and issues in special
education

Meetings are held monthly from September through June
Meetings are open to the public

Director of Special Education in your district or call Norma Erwin, Parent Liaison, TCOE at (559) 730-2910

Note: we suggest that you attend one or more meetings prior
