Tulare County Community Advisory Committee
for Special Education

About the Committee
This committee is required by law
There are 16 members who have been nominated by school districts:
– Two (2) members from each Region (I-IV) in Tulare County
(for a total of 8 members)
– Eight (8) members-at-large
Appointment of candidates is made by the County Board of Education
Most members are parents of students with special needs
Other members are -
- parents of general education students
- general and special education teachers
- a school administrator
- representatives from community agencies
- a student or adult with special needs

Our Job

Support and promote a free, appropriate public education for students with
special needs
Increase awareness of the needs and abilities of special education students
Advise the SELPA Administrator and the Directors of Special Education
Committee on special education issues
Recognize and honor people, agencies and businesses that support the
principles of special education
Become familiar with current trends and issues in special education

Meeting Information

Meetings are held monthly from September through June
Meetings are open to the public

How to Become a Member

If you would like to serve on the Committee, please call the
Director of Special Education in your district or call Norma Erwin,
Parent Liaison, TCOE at (559) 730-2910 ext. 5125
Note: we suggest that you attend one or more meetings prior
to requesting membership
