There are 16 members who have been nominated by school districts: |

– Two (2) members from each Region (I-IV) in Tulare County
(for a total of 8 members) |
|
– Eight (8) members-at-large
Appointment of candidates is made by the County Board of Education |

Most members are parents of students with special needs |
| • |
Other members are - |
|
- parents of general education students |
|
- general and special education teachers |
|
- a school administrator |
|
- representatives from community agencies |
|
- a student or adult with special needs |
|
|
Our Job
|

Support and promote a free, appropriate public education for students with
special needs |
| • |
Increase awareness of the needs and abilities of special education students |
| • |
Advise the SELPA Administrator and the Directors of Special Education
Committee on special education issues |
| • |
Recognize and honor people, agencies and businesses that support the
principles of special education |
| • |
Become familiar with current trends and issues in special education |
